Most exam-day nerves come from the unknown. So here is exactly what happens, and the handful of things that win points once you are in the room.

What to expect

  • Arrive about 15 minutes early at the centre (Luxembourg Glacis or Belval).
  • Bring valid photo ID (the same type you registered with) and your registration confirmation.
  • You wait, then you are called in. The oral exam is with two examiners. The listening test is separate, on a tablet.
  • Phones are usually not allowed in the room. Check your confirmation email for the current rules.

The mindset that helps most

The examiners want you to pass.

They are not trying to trick you. Friendliness and interaction are literally in the scoring criteria. They know you are nervous and that Luxembourgish is hard. They want to see that you can communicate at a basic level.

Five things that win points

  1. Pick the topic or picture you have more words for, not the one that sounds more interesting. Vocabulary you own beats opinions you cannot express.
  2. Keep talking. Silence hurts more than an imperfect sentence. If you slip, correct yourself and move on.
  3. Keep it simple. Short, correct sentences score better than complex ones with errors.
  4. Ask for repetition if you miss a question: Kënnt Dir dat widderholen, wannechgelift? Asking shows interaction, which is graded.
  5. Use a filler, not silence, when you are stuck: Ech mengen... wéi soll ech dat soen?

Break the ice

Use the small-talk window when you walk in. A warm greeting sets the tone:

  • Moien! Wéi geet et Iech? (Hello, how are you?)
  • Ech si bëssen nervös, mee ech si prett. (I am a little nervous, but I am ready.)

Then breathe, speak slowly, and treat it like a conversation. The preparation is done. Test day is about staying calm and keeping the words coming.

Frequently asked questions

What should I bring to the Sproochentest?

Valid photo ID (the same type you registered with) and your registration confirmation. Arrive about 15 minutes early.

How many examiners are there?

Two for the oral exam. The listening test is done separately on a tablet.

What if I do not understand the examiner's question?

Ask them to repeat it: Kënnt Dir dat widderholen, wannechgelift? Asking is fine and counts as interaction, which is graded.

How should I choose between the two topics offered?

Pick the one you have more vocabulary for, even if it sounds less interesting. Words you own beat ideas you cannot express.
